The Ohio Treasure Haunt is a real world treasure hunt game. Participants are mailed a "Haunt Envelope" which holds items and clues necessary to solve a series of riddles which are released on a specified date and time. Some of these riddles will take you to real life locations in Ohio, while others can be solved right at home. The riddles will ultimately reveal the exact location of the "treasure" somewhere in the search area. The winner must solve the riddles and retrieve the treasure in order to claim the $1,000 prize.

1. Purchase a Haunt Envelope to register yourself and your team for the hunt. 2. Receive your Haunt Envelope 1-2 weeks before the start of the hunt. 3. A password will be provided in your envelope. Use the password to access the riddle page on the day of the Haunt. 4. Use the items and riddles and travel to different locations in the search area to solve the clues. 5. The clues will ultimately reveal the exact location of the treasure. Claim your treasure and submit a picture along with a special code that will be located on the treasure itself to verify you as the winner!

Our events are designed to be played over a weekend. With that being said, this is an impossible question to answer. The 2022 and 2023 Haunt lasted about six hours, however that doesn't guarantee this year will be the same. We recommend that you be available and ready to play when the riddles are released so you do not miss out! It may last only a couple of hours, a couple of days, or maybe even a month or longer. If it is not found within 24 hours, a hint will be released the next day at 10:00am. If it is not found within a week, a hint will be released every Saturday and Sunday until it is found.

The search area has been reduced to a single county. The riddles will require you to travel to 3-4 locations in the search area. Solving all of the riddles is not a requirement to win.

If you participated in the 2022 Haunt, you would remember that the (hidden) theme played a vital role in solving the puzzle. We love the idea of theming each Haunt in some way to connect all of the clues and locations. However, we do not want our events to become too predictable. Will a theme play as an important role this year? Who knows?

There are elements some might find spooky, creepy, or maybe even a little disturbing. Our name has "haunt" in it, but we are not limiting ourselves to ghosts. Anything related to the Halloween season is fair game to us. This is not a haunted house, so nothing will ever jump out at you... except for maybe one of your friends.

You may cancel and receive a full refund up until the day that the envelopes are mailed. After that, refunds are no longer accepted with no exceptions.

We try to be as careful as possible when putting together the envelopes. Unfortunately, sometimes mistakes are made. Every envelope will come with a checklist of items included. Please open your envelope as soon as it arrives. If you believe you are missing something, we will either ship the missing pieces to you or will provide you with an electronic copy of the item to ensure you can still fully participate in the Haunt.

Although you will need the riddles to find the treasure, there are some aspects of the puzzle you might be able to work out before the riddles are released.

The clue locations and treasure will always be in areas where the public is generally allowed. Please stay off private property. The treasure itself will NEVER be hidden in a cemetery. However, the cemeteries themselves may be clue locations. If you are looking in a cemetery please be respectful to the grounds and leave it how you found it. We can't guarantee that the Clue locations will be accessible 24 hours a day. It is up to the participant to research any potential travel locations to make sure they are not breaking any rules/laws. A full solve of the puzzle will lead you to the EXACT location. However, you might be able to make out the general location of the treasure with a partial solve and still be able to find it. A complete solve is not a requirement to claim the treasure.

If the treasure is not claimed within 24 hours, a hint will be released the next day at 10:00am. If it is not claimed within one week, additional clues will be released every Saturday and Sunday at 10:00am until it is found.

No! You will never need to purchase admission in order to access the treasure or clue locations. However, those locations may be located nearby places that require paid admission. Some locations may have restricted hours, so it's up to the participants to research the locations before travelling to make sure they are not breaking any rules. Riddles will be released over the course of three hours starting at 9:00am. A password to the Riddle Page will be included in your Haunt Bag. It is very important to test out your access to the riddle page prior to the Haunt to avoid any delays. The riddles do not have to be solved in order.

Yes! No more than 240 envelopes will be sold per event.

No! You only need to buy one bag per team per event. Purchasing multiple bags will not give you an advantage over the other teams.

Yes! However, you must do so before the envelopes are mailed. After the are mailed and you haven't transferred your name, you must still be the one to claim the prize if your team wins.

The Golden Ghost Hunt is a pared-down version of the classic Ohio Treasure Haunt. This event does not include Haunt Bags. A small Golden Ghost worth $250 will be hidden in one county. One riddle will be released that will lead to one location.

If you purchased entry to the event but can no longer play, refunds are allowed up to one hour before the event starts. After that, refunds are no longer accepted with no exceptions. Once a refund has been processed, you will no longer be eligible to claim a prize even if you still have access to the Riddle Page.

No! Treasure Items including Golden Ghosts will never be hidden in cemeteries.

No, only one member of your team needs to register. Please keep in mind that if your team were to win, only the person who originally registered for the hunt is eligible to claim the prize.
